Key takeaway from the Writing Challenge

Developing a Rhythm and Practice of Writing - Part 20

The reason why I started the writing challenge and invited others to join me was to see how consistent writing and sharing would provide the clarity and courage I needed for my next season of life.

On the first day I shared:

“We want clarity in our lives, yet we won’t do the work to seek it.

We want the capacity to change, but we won’t do the work of stretching ourselves.

We want the capability to change, but we won’t do the work of developing the skills to change.

We want to find the courage, but we won’t take the first step that requires it.”

This month was a pivotal month for me. A month where I needed to work through a decision that would impact my family’s life. The consistency of writing and the accountability of sharing the writings with those I challenged with the writing challenge was exactly what I needed.

I was able to find the clarity and courage to commit to the decision… In fact, I made it sooner than I thought. And the greatest fruit from it was my personal growth. I have grown my capacity and capability to navigate a season of uncertainty and transition. It leveled me up on my ability to navigate a season of disruptive change well.

This month-long writing challenge taught me the difference between learning and growing. We can learn by reading, thinking, and writing but we only grow by doing, trying and fighting through challenges and struggles. There is no easy path to growth.

This entry is for Month-long writing challenge for our The Beautiful Future Members. Every weekday, we write and share with one another to build and strengthen our practice of writing.
