I am not a writer but I write.

Developing a Rhythm and Practice of Writing - Part 1

“I am not a writer” may be the greatest hurdle and excuse not to write. It’s easy to declare and believe. Don’t let the label of being a writer stop you from writing.

Not writing is a way to hide and find comfort in the status quo. We don’t write because we are afraid of what we might discover and what it will ask of us. We don’t like the discomfort of exploring the mystery and the effort that change requires of us. We have learned to settle and cope with the dissatisfaction of today.

We want clarity in our lives, yet we won’t do the work to seek it.

We want the capacity to change, but we won’t do the work of stretching ourselves.

We want the capability to change, but we won’t do the work of developing the skills to change.

We want to find the courage, but we won’t take the first step that requires it.

Don’t let the identifier of being a writer prevent you from the practice of writing. Just write.

“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.”

- Joseph Campbell
